A primary school pupil has been honoured for her attendance record despite suffering major health problems.
Lucie Breiner regularly suffers from injuries when playing football for Swale Ladies FC under 12s due to hypermobility.
This condition means her joints are more flexible and move more than normal. She also has a bone condition called Sever’s Disease which causes pain in her heels.
Yet despite all of her problems, the 11-year-old managed to achieve a 100% attendance record for the last five years at Kemsley Primary Academy.
This has mostly been due to the fact she requested doctor’s appointments – and surgery to remove her tonsils – during the school holidays or at the end of the day so she wasn’t marked as absent.
Prior to that, she only had a half day off in Year 1 and Year R. In recognition of her achievement, she was presented with a certificate, a shield and a £50 shopping voucher during a special assembly on the last day of term.
Head teacher Cathryn Andrews said: “She is an outstanding pupil who has attained exceptionally both academically and in the wider curriculum.
“She was part of our gymnastics team that recently became Year 5/6 step 2 Kent County Champions and took a lead role as Rizzo in the Year 6 leavers’ production of Grease.
“We are incredibly proud of Lucie and all that she has achieved and wish her all the very best in the future.
“To gave a 100% attendance record for five years running is the most exceptional of achievements.”
Needless to say, parents Rebecca and Graeme, both 33, are proud of their daughter, who is due to start at Highsted in September.
Mrs Breiner, of Coldharbour Lane, Kemsley, said: “She loves school. I think it’s because she’s a people person and she loves being around her friends and learning new things.
“She’s also very competitive with her sister Alice, 13, who also attends Highsted. They like to see if they can teach each other something new each day.”
