Public toilets in a town have been trashed for the second time in two months – with council bosses blaming teenage girls.

The facilities near Tenterden Recreation Ground were left with paper hanging from the stalls, wet tissue stuck to mirrors and rubbish covering the floor.

Tenterden Town Council says the loos were left in a worse state than when vandals struck at the end of June.

Sharing a picture of the aftermath on Facebook, the town council claims two teenage girls had “struck again” at 5.37pm on Thursday last week.

The post read: “We are extremely saddened to report that the same two female teenagers [...] struck again last night

“The damage was worse than last time. We have reported this to the police and we are looking to charge the individuals for criminal damage (cost to the council and public purse is in the region of £420).

“To the public; if you did see anything, please do get in touch - several people walked past the toilets as they were in there causing damage, so would have heard them.”

Residents have commented on the behaviour, following the council’s Facebook post.

“This is unacceptable behaviour made by people that have no respect for other's property,” one said.

A spokesperson for the police said officers are investigating a report of criminal damage caused to the public toilets in Recreation Ground Road, Tenterden.

“It was reported that the toilet roll dispensers in the cubicles were broken between 5.30pm and 6pm on Thursday, July 27,” they said.

“Officers are also making enquiries into a similar report of damage which took place in the same location between 5.45pm and 6.30pm on Thursday, June 29.

“Police would like to identify and speak to two slim white teenage girls with long dark brown hair who were reported to be in the area at the time of the offences.
