Tenterden Operatic and Dramatic Society’s (TODS) spring show takes to the stage at the town hall for its three-day run tomorrow.
Entertaining Angels, described as a sharp-edged and witty comedy, is also being performed on Friday and Saturday at 7.30pm, with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.
Written by Richard Everett, the TODS version is being directed by Michael Patrick, helped by Brian Fagg.
The play will be entered in the Kent Drama Association full length play festival, with adjudication of Friday’s performance.
When Entertaining Angels was first staged at the Chichester Festival Theatre, Penelope Keith gave a widely acclaimed performance as Grace and attracted a record-breaking 26,000 people in just over three weeks.
It has since been performed all over the world and has enjoyed great success with amateur companies.
As a vicar’s wife, Grace has spent a lifetime on her best behaviour. She claims to have poured 200,000 cups of tea, made 4,600 medium-sized quiches and personally baked two tons of light crust pastry. And for what?
Now, after the death of her husband Bardolph she can enjoy the new-found freedom of being able to do and say exactly what she wants. But the return of her eccentric missionary sister, Ruth, together with some disturbing revelations forces Grace to confront the truth of her marriage.
Tickets, priced £10 and £9, may still be available from ticketsource.co.uk/todsproductions or the High Street box office at Advantec Computing, The Fairings, Tenterden.
