The stage is set for a fun-filled May fair that will feature a calvacade of vintage vehicles.

Classic cars, motorcycles and tractors are expected to join the procession from Station Road to Tenterden Recreation Ground on Bank Holiday Monday.

The recreation ground itself will be filled with stalls, with more than 30 signed up to take up their place ranging from the Women’s Institute to Cancer Research.

Forrest Fairs will be providing amusements for children, including a roundabout and bouncy castle.

The arena is to feature music from Ashford Sea Cadets band and dance displays from Tenterden’s Smileys and Feat Beat troupes, plus lindy hop from dance group Swing.

Youngsters from Tenterden Juniors’ are preparing to dance round the Maypole, the centrepiece of the Bank Holiday celebrations.

Displays from Kestral Gymnastics, plus juggling and tricks from an act called Applause are on the entertainment agenda.

The popular annual dog show will be held and is set to attact the crowds, while Tenterden Scouts will run a coconut shy.

A variety of food and drink is set to be offered and beer drinkers are in for a treat as a mobile bar will be parked up on the Recreation Ground. Drinks will be served from the Woolpack’s beer van.

Car owners have a chance to give their vehicles a unique stamp – one created by prolific doodler Sam Cox.

Tenterden’s Mr Doodle will be at the May fair with his marker pen in hand ready to draw a one-off design for a car owner.

The design would be permanent and Sam is happy to doodle on any car but said “a Mini would look really cool with doodles”.

Mayor of Tenterden Pam Smith asked Sam if she could draw on his doodling ability to promote the May fair and the former Homewood School pupil said he was happy to support it.

Sam said his drawings would be in white on a black or dark-coloured car and in black on lighter-coloured vehicles.

How a car decorated by Sam Cox could look

“I would doodle mechanical objects and people driving cars,” he said, adding that he might throw in a few flowers of aliens into the design for fun.

If your car could do with a style makeover on May 1, Sam can be contacted by searching for Mr Doodle on Facebook or emailing hello@thedoodleman.co.uk
