Motorists and residents in Hales Close, Tenterden, have been left angry notes on their cars telling them not to park in the road.

The street is mainly home to older residents who all share several parking bays at the end of the road.

Linda Garner, 70, has lived in Hales Close for over 10 years and has never owned a car, so never usually uses one of the car parking spaces.

But, on Tuesday, November 14, her grandson parked his car in one of the bays for just over an hour as they all attended a family event in the town and she was unhappy to find a note attached to the car when they returned.

Mrs Garner said: “It was after my mum’s funeral in Charing.

“So we all came back over to Tenterden where we had a special afternoon tea. I said to my grandson to park in one of the spaces and walk into town at about 5pm.

“We had a lovely time but then when we came back we saw the note on the car.”

She added: “The more I’ve thought about it, the crosser I’ve got.

“It was after my mum’s funeral so it was the last thing I wanted, it really took the edge off what had been a really nice send-off for her.”

The note, which was all typed in capitals and printed, was left on the windscreen.

Mrs Garner added: “The note was timed at 4.50pm, about 10 minutes after my grandson had arrived.

“So this person had watched him park the car and then he and his wife get out their baby and the pram, so why didn’t they just say something then.

“It’s not as if he had done anything wrong or had blocked anyone in, he had parked in a free space.”

This isn’t the first note that one of her visitors has received.

“The same thing happened around this time last year when my daughter came to visit,” said Mrs Garner.

“She had brought my mum over from Ashford and the three of us went into Tenterden for the Christmas market. Then when we got back she had a similar note on her car.

“It’s just really petty. Anyone can use those parking spaces because there’s no parking restrictions or bays but it’s obvious some people think they own them.”
