A sun-worshipping puma has been making the most of the soaring temperatures by catching the rays in a custom-made hammock.

Nine-year-old Yazhi has been hand reared by staff at the Big Cat Sanctuary in Smarden after first being brought to sister attraction the Paradise Wildlife Park in Hertfordshire as a cub.

The fun-loving feline has been attracting admirers on Facebook after a video was shared by the Kent sanctuary of Yazhi sprawling in her hammock in the sunshine as temperatures are expected to reach 37C in the county this week.

Yazhi is making the most of the sunshine

Spokesman Tanith Brown said: "Yazhi came to us when she was a year old when she was rescued from Italy.

"She just loves the sun and is a real sun-worshipper but she's also an agile, athletic lady who enjoys playing with a football.

"At the sanctuary we provide enrichment for all our big cats to create the best possible environment for them and we like to provide objects to stimulate them like the hammock."

The video was posted ahead of the Big Cat Sanctuary's open event from Wednesday until Sunday, when up to15,000 people are expected to visit the Smarden attraction to get a close-up look at the big cats.
