A queue formed to see the figurine of a shepherd boy that is said to bear an uncanny resemblance to the Prime Minister.

The unruly mop of blond hair and wide eyes belonging to a young shepherd placed in a crib scene at St Mildred's Church in Tenterden, was remarked upon by a visitor to the church on Saturday, who said it looked like Boris Johnson.

Rev Canon Lindsay Hammond, told his Sunday congregation about the visitor's comment and it led to people queuing to get a glimpse of the shepherd boy after the service.

Mr Hammond said: "We've had the crib set in the church for many years now, but with the election fresh in everybody's mind and Boris's victory, the shepherd boy has been seen in a new light."

Prime minister Johnson welcomed 109 new Conservative MPs to Parliament after his landslide election victory, with his distinctive image now familiar in many corners of the globe.

"When I mentioned the figure's likeness to Boris in the Sunday service people were queuing up afterwards to get a look at him," said Mr Hammond.

"The shepherd boy is safely in the care of a grown-up shepherd who he is being led by."

The crib set will remain in place in the 12th century Grade I listed church until Candlemas, on February 2, which marks 40 days after the birth of Mary's son Jesus.

Mr Hammond added: "Maybe we will see start to see a pilgrimage to the shrine of St Boris at St Mildred's."
