Police and fire crews called to Bethersden Road, in Smarden, after tractor hits telegraph pole

A tractor carrying bales of hales collided with a telegraph pole this afternoon in Smarden.

The collision resulted in Bethersden Road being closed for an hour while emergency services made the scene safe.

Firefighters from Ashford were called at 12.30pm to a report a tractor pulling a trailer stacked with hay had knocked a pole over and a pulled a tree from the ground.

The road was closed for an hour following he collision

After arriving at the scene, crews called engineers from UK Power Network following fears the power cable that had been attached to the pole was hanging low.

They also cleared the road of any hay which had fallen from the vehicle.

No one was reported as injured.

Police also attended the scene and closed the road in both directions while the work was carried out.

The road has now re-opened.
