A 19-year-old man was injured in an accident involving an ambulance this morning.

He was in a car which collided with the vehicle in School Road, Appledore, at around 7am.

An eye witness said that the Ford Fiesta also crashed into an oil tank outside a house.

The driver was taken to William Harvey Hospital suffering from back pain.

A South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) spokesman said: “SECAmb can confirm that one of its ambulances was involved in an RTC with a car.

“A further ambulance and two cars attended the scene. One patient, a 19-year-old man from the car, was assessed and treated at the scene before being taken to hospital fully conscious but suffering from injuries including back pain.

“The ambulance crew were shaken but didn’t require hospital treatment.

“The ambulance was not carrying any patients at the time but was responding to a call to a private address in the area.

“Another vehicle was already in attendance at this address and another ambulance was assigned to attend following the collision.”

Police say the road has been closed for utility companies to carry out repairs.
