A town’s first Domino’s will open its doors tomorrow - despite residents fearing it will not fit in.

Bosses at the pizza giant have snapped up a number of former Lloyds Bank sites around the county, including the former facility in Tenterden high street.

After shutting for good in 2017, the unit has sat empty ever since.

But that was until Domino’s bosses put in plans to convert it into one of its takeaway outlets last summer.

The scheme caused concerns among residents at the time, with Ashford’s Sarah James saying Domino’s would be out of place in Tenterden.

“The town has something that brings people like me in from miles away, and it’s not chain stores or the same takeaways you see in every town,” she said.

“Speaking purely as an Ashford resident, if I want a chain restaurant or takeaway, the furthest I have to go is the Designer Outlet.

“If I wanted a Domino’s, realistically I could stay at home, why would I come to Tenterden for it?”

Despite the concerns, the conversion was given the green light by planning officers at Ashford Borough Council in November.

Work then started and the first customers will now be welcomed tomorrow from 11am, although there is a soft opening today.

The first 100 customers through the doors will get a free pizza, bosses say.

The opening comes just months after Domino’s opened in another former Lloyds Bank in New Romney.
