Whale-shaped spud found at The Potato Shop in Smallhythe Road, Tenterden

Potato sorters had a surprise when they fished out a whale-shaped spud from a crop.

The specimen emerged as staff at The Potato Shop in Tenterden were sorting the spuds as storms lashed the town.

It was closely followed by another resembling a creature from the deep - an Arran Victory potato that staff thought resembled an octopus.

Nicki Crawley, manager of the shop in Smallhythe Road, said: "We just thought it was funny because it was raining so hard when we were picking and packing the potatoes and we found some that looked liked underwater creatures."
