A woman had to be rescued when she found herself trapped in a car that had became stuck in a ditch in Tenterden.

Firefighters freed the woman, believed to be in her fifties, after the accident on the B2080 where Appledore Road and Reading Street meet.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Firefighters helped to release a woman, thought to be in her fifties, who was trapped in a car that had become stuck in a ditch in Appledore Road, Tenterden.

"Crews used two short extension ladders to access the ditch and rescue the woman, who was passed in to the care of ambulance crews."

Police confirmed just one vehicle was involved in the collision, which occurred just after 9.30am, and said the woman was not thought to be seriously injured.

A spokesman said: "Kent Police received a report of a single-vehicle collision at 9.34am on Saturday, July 18.

"Officers attended the scene in Reading Street, Tenterden.

"A woman with injuries not believed to be life-threatening was taken to a local hospital."
