A woman said she was nearly hit by a car after it crashed through a driveway gate as burglars made their getaway.

The incident took place in Ashford Road, St Michael's, on Tuesday, February 21.

Items stolen from a garage included a mountain bike, leaf blower and hedge trimmer and they were loaded into the boot of a small black car that had reversed into the driveway.

The woman tried to close a wooden gate at the bottom of the drive but the car crashed through it with the boot still open and headed in the direction of Tenterden.

Police are appealing for witnesses and if anyone saw the car being driven with the boot open and the items inside they are asked to call the appeal line on 01843 222289 quoting reference ZY/7096/17.
