A clothing store is set to permanently close after years on the high street.
Crew Clothing in Tenterden will shut its doors for the final time on Sunday.
A notice in the shop window says: “Please be aware due to our store clothing permanently on Sunday, September 10, any unwanted online or in-store purchases must be returned prior to this date.
“Cash purchases should be returned asap.
“We would like to thank all of our customers over the years for your loyalty, we will miss you!
“All the girls at Crew.”
Just across the road, a shop selling bespoke handcrafted products opened this summer.
Made by Bayliss and Co, an independent retail space selling work created by nine local makers, started welcoming customers in Tenterden in June.
Husband and wife team Beth and Martin Bayliss are behind the business and made the jump to open a retail space after feeling this was the best way for people to appreciate the handcrafted products they sell.
“Martin makes bespoke wooden pieces including furniture and used to sell solely online. But we felt that with wood, you need to be able to see and feel it,” Mrs Bayliss said.
“We had a pop-up shop in Cranbrook called Bayliss and Thompson over the five months around Christmas last year which we sold Martin’s wooden work in as well as ceramics our friend Antonia Thompson made.
“But it was the tiniest space in the history of the world ever so we decided to expand.
“Customers also get to meet the makers. There is no one better for people to speak to than the person who made it.
“People then appreciate the process of making it and you do not get that online – it is a faceless world.”
Made by Bayliss and Co at 17a High Street is open Tuesday to Friday 11am-4pm and Saturday 10am-5pm.
