However, the pair are now looking for pastures new, having made the decision to shut the store and retire.

A statement read: "It is with great sadness that we announce Huntleys Butchers will be officially closing its doors on Saturday, 29th March.

"We would like to say a huge thank you to all of our wonderful customers who have ordered from us over the years - it really has meant the world to us.

"We opened Huntleys Butchers 39 years ago when our oldest daughter was just two [and] it has seen us through our three children growing up and now six grandchildren so the time has come for us to start a new journey.

"Once again, thank you for all of your support and of course thank you to all of our amazing staff over the years that made Huntleys Butchers what it was."

Huntleys is known for its lamb, beef and pork, plus its £52 meat pack featuring sausages, bacon, diced and minced steak, chicken and pork chops.

As well as serving the public, it has provided meat to a variety of pubs and restaurants including Hythe Imperial Hotel and Spa.

A number of customers posted words of support following the announcement.

One, Megan Exford, said: "I’ve been working in care for the last 14 months and many of my clients have used your butchers’ and had such amazing things to say about both of you.”

Kelly Avila added: "Sad news. Not sure what we’re going to do without Clint’s sausages.

"Thanks for the lovely meat over the last few years. Good luck to you both."
