Forty firefighters have been taking on a blaze in a small village.
Eight fire engines were called out when the flames started at a domestic garage at Gatefield Cottages off Halden Lane, Rolvenden, this afternoon.
Crews, wearing breathing apparatus, were dealing with the fire with a high-pressure hose reel jet.
A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "There are no reports of any injuries and the cause has not yet been established."
Police closed the nearby main road outside Tenterden.
A spokesman for Kent Police said: "At 2pm Kent Police was called by Kent Fire and Rescue Service to a property that was alight at Gatefield.
"Officers are currently at the scene and have closed the A28 between Sparkeswood Avenue and Halden Lane while fire crews continue to tackle the blaze."
Initial traffic reports had warned that the A28 Tenterden Road was closed both ways and there was heavy traffic in the area.
KFRS said in an update at 4.30pm: "The earlier advice to avoid the area in Rolvenden has been withdrawn and the A28 is expected to reopen shortly."
Others helping in the incident are an electrical safety engineer from UK Power Networks, a gas safety engineer and Rapid Response Team volunteers.
