Residents have been offered a sneak peak inside the ongoing works to reopen their town's swimming pool
Tenterden Leisure Centre shared a glimpse inside the operation to rejuvenate and repair the pool – while the wait goes on for a reopening date.
Work began in September to remove the roof covering completely and replace it with a more thermally efficient roof, which will also require less maintenance.
However in October, stormy weather caused severe damage which meant the pool had to close completely while repairs and renovations were made.
While originally only slated to be closed for a week, the extent of the damage soon became clear and bosses announced the pool would have to stay shut until "Summer 2022".
The pushback of the date, however, has also allowed workers to restore and improve the facilities while work to finish the roof completes.
Images show completed work, including regrouted edges of the pool, which has been partly filled with water but still needs to be treated.
Facilities Manager Jordan Garland said that the team was "desperate" to have the works completed and the pool reopened.
“Currently, we have no firm date for the pool to reopen," he added.
" However, Ashford Borough Council are making good progress with various works already completed, including regrouting and retiling in various areas of the pool, plus the addition of a new filtration system and all work completed on our wave machine, River Run and flumes.
"We’re also making good progress on the repairs to the roof and the installation of our new air handing unit.
"Like our customers, we’re desperate to get the pool open again, and I’d like to thank the council team who are working tirelessly on the ongoing projects.
"I would encourage all customers to keep an eye on our Facebook page and website, where we will be sharing all key updates over the coming days and weeks.
"I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to our loyal customers who have shown great patience during this period, and remind all local people that although our pool is currently closed, our gym, sports hall and extensive range of workout classes are still up and running and ready for you to enjoy at Tenterden Leisure Centre.”
