Fireworks at St Michael’s C of E Primary School, Tenterden, cancelled due to building work

A school’s popular fireworks display will not take place this year due to building work at the venue.

St Micheal’s C of E Primary School in Tenterden was set to hold a pyrotechnic display billed as “out of this world” this Saturday.

However, due to “circumstances out of their control”, the event will not take place and has been postponed until next year.

A social media post by the school’s Parent and Teacher Association (PTA) states: “It is with huge sadness and regret that the committee has had to take the decision to postpone this year's fireworks event.

“The event will no longer take place on Saturday, November 9 as advertised and tickets are no longer on sale.

“Due to circumstances beyond our control with the current building works on site, we have had to take this decision to ensure the safety of all involved.

“The PTA team have worked tirelessly to navigate the building planning and the necessary risk assessments involved, however, the safety of you and your children is our top priority.

“This is not a decision we have made lightly as it has a great impact on our school and our community. We are so sorry to those of you who are disappointed.”

They added that refunds will be issued, with those who bought the £6 tickets asked to go back to the vendor they purchased them from.

The post continued: “This event has historically been our largest and most successful fundraising event.

“We fully intend to be back next year with a bang!

“The event preparation is all done already, so we will hold tight and be back bigger and better in 2025.

“Thank you so much for your understanding.”

In past years, the event has attracted around 1400 people.

In 2015, school organisers were shocked after people donated and paid with fake £20 notes.

The counterfeit money deprived pupils of much-needed new laptops.
