Some three fire engines were called just after 2.30am to extinguish the blaze.

Mr Barham says: “I’m very annoyed as it's just completely unnecessary.

“I am almost certain that this is arson. I have been told the fire would have been lit a couple of hours before it was reported.

“How else would a barn fire start at this time? There was no machinery in the barn and no electricity connected.

“It was reported by a lady who lives half a mile away.”

Halden Lane Farm is part of the Hole Park Estate, which has been in Mr Barham’s family for more than 100 years.

The 61-year-old believes the barn is a “complete write-off” and wants the incident to be investigated.

The landowner adds: “It's just completely unnecessary, I can only imagine how much the insurance claim will be.

“I estimate this will cost around £50,000 when all is said and done.

“I would like to reassure people that the barn is only 20 years old and has no asbestos.”

One fire engine remains at the scene and the fire service says the blaze is now under control.

A spokesperson added: “No injuries have been reported and the cause of the fire is not yet known.”

Police say they were not called to the scene. KentOnline has asked if they are investigating the fire.
