A leisure centre has revealed the date for the long-awaited reopening of its storm-damaged pool.
Swimmers have will not have much longer to endure the nearly year-long wait for Tenterden Leisure Centre's swimming pool to reopen.
The pool welcomed its first swimmers – a group of trainee lifeguards – earlier this month after more than 11 months of closures following extensive damage to the roof.
Work had begun in September to remove the roof and replace it with a more thermally efficient covering, which will also require less maintenance.
However in October, stormy weather caused severe damage which meant the pool had to close completely while repairs and renovations were made.
While originally only slated to be closed for a week, the extent of the damage soon became clear and bosses announced the pool would have to stay shut until "Summer 2022".
The pushback of the date, however, has also allowed workers to restore and improve the facilities while work to finish the roof completes.
However, it has finally been announced today that swimming will be able to resume on Wednesday, September 21.
The news came after Facilities Manager Jordan Garland welcomed an end of "one of the most challenging periods in the history" of the centre.
"We would like to thank everybody that has helped us reach this stage," he added.
"Not least forgetting all of our wonderful members and casual users, who have shown your support, and above all else have waited very patiently."
