A town’s toilets are becoming a talking point after gaining close to 200 followers on Twitter.
Enterprising businesswoman Laura Napper, who owns Tenterden Twilight Commercial Cleaning, set up the account to promote the pristine toilet pans, spotless seats and sparkling sinks in the toilets she cleans.
Laura looks after the loos in Recreation Ground Road, Station Road and St Michael’s for Tenterden Town Council, but away from her buckets and mops, she has a handle on social media.
She said: “I think it’s so important for residents and tourists to find the town’s toilets clean and I went on Twitter because I wanted to get the word out to coach companies and holiday firms that the toilets are well looked after.
“I take great pride in my work and have received lots of compliments about how clean the toilets are.”
Enthusiastic comments include one from Billy Womble who gushes on Twitter: “I can’t wait to get caught short near you”.
Laura has posted pictures of her toilets with different coloured filters on them, captioning them with descriptions such as ‘cool’ and ‘golden hour’, tweeting ‘50 shades of clean down at the park’.
She has also included a ‘before and after shot’ of a once rusty loo roll dispenser, cleaned to reveal shiny stainless steel.
Her @tenterdensloos account is even backing a Twitter campaign to keep public toilets open in west Berkshire, and she was thanked after retweeting an appeal in Pangbourne.
Terry Thorpe, chairman of Tenterden Chamber of Commence says that it’s important that the town’s toilets are clean and he applauds Laura’s initiative. He said: “First impressions are very important and if people use a toilet that’s not clean when they visit the town it will taint their experience.”
Mr Thorpe added: “Anyone in business of whatever type needs to embrace social media and the Twitter account is a good idea.”
