A MULTI-million pound development is heading for a Thanet School.
Charles Dickens School is set to receive £6million to pay for an extension that will allow a further 300 pupils to join the school.
The development has already gone through a consultation. Now the final decision will be made by the schools organisation committee, which meets next in May.
Kent County Council has borrowed the money to fund the project along with dipping into council cash reserves.
The extension to the school will include science and maths improvements; art, resource, IT and dining refurbishments; new sports hall and changing rooms; two new music rooms; remodelling of gym to a dance, drama and music practice facility; technology extension and refurbishments; visually impaired unit refurbishment; admin and office remodelling and extension to staff room.
KCC cabinet member for school organisation, Leyland Ridings, said: “We are very aware of the need for more secondary school places in Thanet and this project will go some way to addressing this need.
“We want to expand Charles Dickens because of the excellent reputation it has in the county and I am delighted the public consultation went well.
“I hope the rest of the process goes smoothly in order to start work on site as soon as possible.”
