The family of tragic Delyth Andrews have praised “the fun person who always cared for others” as three brothers are convicted of her murder.
Her sister Sian Brown – who sat through all the harrowing evidence at the trial of her killers – told how Delyth was “compassionate and generous to a fault”.
Talking on behalf of the family, Sian said: “Delyth was our baby sister. As we all grew up and moved out to start our own lives Delyth remained living with Dad and cared for him till the end of his life.
“As a consequence, when Dad did die she was bereft and struggled to cope.
"Delyth suffered from mental health issues and went off the rails for some time.”
Sian told how the family “tried desperately” to help but Delyth had not made this easy.
“In addition we felt let down by outside agencies. However it is very difficult to help someone who doesn’t want to be helped.
“Delyth began to neglect her true friends and pushed her family away and this only left her all the more exposed and vulnerable to anyone who would choose to exploit her.”
Sian added: “Delyth was too trusting and had a false sense of loyalty; she wouldn’t consider telling tales on others, particularly if she considered them a friend.
"She was easily won over and manipulated and therefore an easy target to be taken advantage of.”
Sian said her sister was “always in our thoughts” even despite not seeing her for some time.
“She always knew how to get hold of us if she needed us, she had done it regularly in the past, and we were confident that she would do it again.
"But the fact that we heard nothing led us to assume that all was well. It is difficult to be estranged from a loved one and of course now, after what has happened, we have feelings of regret: what ifs, and 'could we have done more?' " she added.
Sian told of finding out about the attack, saying: “She sustained such horrific injuries in these circumstances it was absolutely awful, and these circumstances are abhorrent.
“But to then discover that she had sustained months of emotional, physical and financial abuse from a family that she allowed into her home is extremely difficult to bear.
“She must have been so afraid, a prisoner in her own home, a place you should always feel safe, she must have suffered greatly. It breaks our heart to think of what she endured.”

“A large cavity has been left in our lives. Along with suffering from this loss, we have experienced tremendous stress, anxiety and trauma" - Sian Brown
Sian added: “A large cavity has been left in our lives. Along with suffering from this loss, we have experienced tremendous stress, anxiety and trauma.
"You just don’t imagine in your worst nightmares that something like this could ever happen to a loved one. We cannot comprehend how any human being could do such a thing.
"In the end her vulnerability, kindness and generosity killed her. This family stole from her; sold her personal possessions; severely abused her all the while referring to her as The Div; and then ultimately went on to take her life.
"We will never forgive them for what they have done to Delyth and we pray that justice is now done.”
The family have also praised nurses and doctors at the QEQM and London’s King’s College Hospitals for their care – and the police officers who investigated the appalling crime.
