Two people have been airlifted to a London hospital after serious two-car crash this morning.

Shottendane Road in Garlinge, near Margate, is shut in both directions following the incident at 9.40am.

Four people were injured in the collison, two of which were taken to Kings College Hospital by air ambulance.

Traffic information site Inrix reports slow traffic in the area.

A police spokesman said: “Kent Police is currently at the scene of a serious collision near the junction of Garlinge High Street and Shottendane Road, near Margate, which took place at around 9.40am.

“Shottendane Road is currently closed while emergency services respond and motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.”

A spokeswoman for the ambulance service added: “I can confirm that we were called shortly before 10am this morning to reports of a RTC involving two vehicles in Shottendane Road in Margate.

“Crews arrived on scene and assessed and treated four patients in total.

“The Air Ambulance Charity Kent, Surrey, Sussex joined crews on scene and airlifted two patients to Kings College Hospital and crews took two patients by land to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.”
