Arrest after armed police called to Thanet District Council offices in Cecil Street, Margate

A man was arrested after armed police were called to council offices yesterday afternoon.

The Thanet District Council building in Cecil Street, Margate, was temporarily shut as a result.

Police say they were called just before 2.30pm following reports of a “man making threats”.

“Officers attended and the man was located and arrested in relation to the incident,” they said.

“He has been taken into custody and inquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing.”

A spokesperson from the council added: “The matter was quickly resolved.

“The council offices were closed for a short period, as a safety precaution and reopened just after 3pm.”
