A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting a member of staff at a pub during a screening of the Euros final.

The incident happened at The Britannia pub in Margate, on Sunday night.

Police were called shortly after 10pm, following a report a man had assaulted a member of staff.

Nathan Galvin, 32, of Argyll Drive in Ramsgate, was arrested in connection with the incident.

He has since been charged with assault and an additional count of possessing cocaine.

He has been released on bail, and is due to attend Margate Magistrates’ Court on 19 August 19.

A police spokesman added: "It has also been reported that two men threw a chair at members of staff and inquiries into that report are ongoing."

A statement has since been posted on The Britannia's Facebook page.

It brands the incident "a very serious matter" and urges anyone with photos or video footage to get in touch.

The statement adds: "We are truly sorry about the trouble and hope that this did not ruin your whole evening. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support and hope to see you all soon."

The alleged attack is one of several violent incidents said to have taken place in Thanet on Sunday night, as many watched the hotly anticipated Euros final that saw England lose to Italy at Wembley.

A man was stabbed on Ramsgate Main Sands, sparking a police appeal for witnesses.

Elsewhere in Margate, meanwhile, a teenage girl was left with a head injury after she was allegedly assaulted by a group of four women.
