Man seriously injured and one arrest after car crashes into Co-op Funeralcare in King Street, Ramsgate

A man has been arrested after another was left seriously injured when a car ploughed into a funeral directors.

Pictures captured the aftermath of the crash in Plains of Waterloo, Ramsgate, showing a Peugeot estate which appears to have driven through the window of the Co-op Funeralcare branch.

Police, paramedics and the fire service descended on the junction with King Street shortly before 3pm yesterday.

An air ambulance also landed at nearby Chatham House Grammar School and a male victim was flown to a London hospital with serious injuries.

Another person suffered injuries but these were not said to be serious.

A police spokesperson confirmed they were called shortly after 2.45pm following a report a car had collided with a building.

"Officers attended along with South East Coast Ambulance Service, an air ambulance and Kent Fire and Rescue Service and a man was flown to a London hospital with serious injuries," they said.

"A man from Ramsgate has since been arrested on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving and remains in custody."

An investigation is ongoing.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: "I can confirm we were called shortly after 2.45pm yesterday to reports a car had left the road and struck a building in King Street, Ramsgate.

"Ambulance crews attended and were joined at the scene by the air ambulance service.

"Two patients were assessed and treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.

"The first patient was airlifted to Kings College Hospital with serious injuries and the second patient was taken to William Harvey Hospital with injuries believed to be less serious."
