As the victim fell to the floor, another man put his foot against his neck to stop him getting up. He was assaulted and felt his pockets being searched.

They took his wallet containing a quantity of cash. He also realised his phone was missing.

Officers are particularly keen to speak to a woman who was able to give the victim his phone back following the incident.

DC Jason Maitland said: "This was a nasty and unprovoked attack and it is fortunate that the victim’s injuries were not worse.

"We want to speak to anyone who might recognise these two men pictured in the efits or if anyone remembers seeing a group of people in the area around that time."

The incident took place at 1.50am on May 23 but police only released the details today.

Anyone with information is urged to call police on 01843 222289 quoting reference ZY/015805/15.
