Hundreds of homes in Ramsgate left without electricity

More than 1,600 homes in Ramsgate were left without electricity following a power blackout today.

The issue was caused by a cable fault on a high-voltage underground network and affected homes across the town, including in Newington, Pegwell and St Lawrence.

UK Power Networks engineers were sent to the area to fix the issue - which was first reported at about 9am - and temporary generators were brought in to provide power.

It had hoped to have the electricity restored to most homes using the generators by 4.30pm.

Power was briefly restored shortly after 3pm but a second fault occurred, which was not fixed until about 6.15pm.
