An operation is under way to recover the body of a man from a beach this evening.

Police and paramedics were called to the stretch off Royal Esplanade near popular Pegwell Bay in Ramsgate at 3.20pm.

They are still on the scene and the man's next of kin have been made aware.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

A witness reported seeing numerous police vehicles and members of the coast guard who appeared to be getting prepared to abseil down cliffs.
