A burglar is being hunted, with outdated cash being highlighted as a lead.

Between Tuesday, April 16 and Wednesday, April 17, the back door of a house on Maynard Avenue in Margate was smashed and entry was gained by the thief.

Investigating officer Police Constable Mark Huttley said: “The victim has reported that a quantity of money was stolen but also a quantity of Chilean 100 Peso notes.

"These are no longer legal tender and therefore could be identifiable if someone were to exchange them for sterling.

"I would urge anyone who may have been offered the notes to get in touch.”

According to Leftover currency, each note, or 'gamba' is worth approximately 7p and was withdrawn from circulation in 1984 - just eight years after they were first introduced by The Banco Central de Chile.
