Great British Bake Off contender Chetna Makan has risen to her final challenge - after being booted off the show.

Speaking exclusively on kmfm, the Broadstairs mum-of-two told of her relief at being able to talk about the show to friends and family, after being sworn to secrecy as a contestant of the BBC One cult series.

The 36-year-old told Garry and Emma of the breakfast show it was nail-biting watching her last appearance, after her baklava was criticised for a "lack of flaky layers".

She said: "I feel really, really light and very happy today, because everyone knows, and I don't have to keep any more secrets. I feel really good.

"It was difficult to watch it. I knew what was happening, but I didn't know how it would all come out, because I hadn't seen the edits.

The mother only started baking a few years ago when she decided to make birthday cakes for her children, aged six and four, but earlier this year she was chosen to take part in the fifth series of the BBC show.

Chetna moved to Broadstairs with her husband Gaurav from Mumbai 10 years ago, when he trained as a GP at Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate.

Now she has big plans for the future.

She told Garry and Emma she was doing a demonstration at a stall at the Broadstairs Food Festival this weekend.

She was also planning to set up a pop-up kitchen to "see how it goes".
