Child rescued after being hit by train in Broadstairs

A seriously injured child was airlifted to hospital after being hit by a train.

Emergency services were called to Broadstairs station after the incident last night and trains were cancelled between Ramsgate and Margate while emergency services dealt with the collision.

Trains running between Ramsgate and Margate fully reopened before 8.30pm.

A spokesman from British Transport Police said: “At 6:33pm British Transport Police were made aware of reports of a person struck by a train close to Broadstairs train station.

“BTP worked closely with local emergency service colleagues and railway staff to rescue the casualty, who was then removed to a waiting ambulance and taken to hospital."

Ambulance service spokesman Rich Airey said: "Crews attended the scene and were joined by the air ambulance.

"All services worked together to treat one patient at the scene before the patient was airlifted to Kings College Hospital with potentially serious injuries."

The child's age and gender has not yet been released.
