Police were contacted at 11.45pm yesterday and HM Coastguard Margate were tasked by the coastguard to assist officers.

Two RNLI Ramsgate boats were launched at 2.30am.

An illuminating white parachute flare was fired by one of the lifeboats - but nothing was seen.
