Witch way to look is amusing visitors to Margate Old Town as traders prepare for a Halloween party.

Artist Anthony Wait set out to make them smile and prove that eyecatching art need not cost much.

His witch and broomstick, crashed into the first floor above his Broad Street studio, is attracting plenty of attention.

It also has an added safety message: “Don’t drink and fly.”

Anthony said his creation had cost him only £10 to put together, using garments and items from a charity shop.

He is preparing more unmissable entertainment dressed as Bride of Dracula, presiding over a Halloween party at his other business venture, Vera’s Kitchen, next to his studio.

The fun there, in aid of Demelza House children’s hospice, will take place from noon to 9pm on Thursday, October 31.

Elsewhere in the town there will be Halloween crafts at Rough Trade, Fort Hill, from 3-5pm with Quartet In The Community, with a trick or treat trail starting there from 5-6pm.

Hot soup will be served at Margate Retro General Store, Fort Road, with face painting in Punkaboo, King Street.

There will be a party in the Market Place from 6-7pm with apple bobbing, a fancy dress competition and ghost walks with Margate Museum.

Participants are invited to bring their pumpkins to light up the square with a prize for the best.

There will be tarot and clairvoyance with Guardian Angels from 7pm at the Bull’s Head and spooky baking at The Cupcake Cafe all week.

Other businesses supporting the family fun day include Revolutionary Arts, Streets Ahead Margate, Mr Simms and Margate Retro.
