Police and ambulance crews called to mass brawl on Margate beach

A man has been arrested following a mass brawl on Margate beach.

The altercation, which is thought to have involved around 50 people, followed a report that a child had been assaulted.

Police and paramedics were called to the main sands shortly before 1.15pm, following the disturbance.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "Officers were called at 13.13pm on Saturday, June 29 to reports of an altercation on Margate beach involving two large groups of people totalling about 50 individuals and reports that a child had been assaulted.

"Paramedics attended. A 43-year-old man from St Albans was arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated public order and assault."
