The continuing saga of Dreamland fun park in Margate took another positive step forward at the bank holiday weekend.

While the plan to open a heritage theme attraction next year remains the ultimate goal, the launch of the learning and visitor centre in the former cinema arcade building has increased the park’s presence for visitors and residents on the town’s seafront.

Organisers say the centre will be a portal for finding out about Dreamland’s past, present and future plans for the site, including details about the rides that will be reinstated into the park and the overall vision for its part in the regeneration of Margate.

Dreamland Expo - Past, Present and Future was visited by more than a thousand people following its opening on Sunday and attractions included family fun and games including the pinball museum, face painting, ice cream, archive film screenings, tunes and dancing.

Author Nick Evans was on hand to sign copies of his latest book that celebrates the Dreamland heritage and he said it is “terrific to see life being breathed back into the old fun park.”

The 50th anniversary of Margate’s infamous youth culture clash on the beaches and seafront between Mods and Rockers was highlighted, and there was a chance to win Fred Perry Margate on the Run T-shirts.

The exhibition is free and is open every day from 10am until 5pm with occasional fund raising music events, film screenings, presentations and activities throughout the year.
