A theme park is celebrating its busiest year since it reopened four years ago.

Dreamland Margate has already welcomed more than 650,000 visitors this year - more than double the seaside park's previous record.

Dreamland Margate has had more than 600,000 visitors so far this year

The bulk of visitors have come over the summer months, with more than 310,000 people turning out to ride on the Scenic Railway and other attractions, including live screenings of Glastonbury and the Love Island final.

A giant inflatable Tina Turner also turned a few heads.

In April it waived the cost of admission, so visitors had to pay per ride, buy discounted wristbands online in advance or join as members.

Visitor numbers over Easter nearly doubled on 2018's figures to nearly 50,000, record figures for the theme park which reopened in 2015.

Eddie Kemsley returned to the business as CEO in January 2019 to oversee the new direction of the park.

Earlier this year KentOnline revealed the theme park was being sold by Thanet District Council.

She said: “This is a staggering achievement by the whole team. The results surpassed even our own high expectations.

"We’re particularly pleased that numbers are spread across the year, with healthy numbers visiting in the quieter ‘off peak’ months too – which is great news for Margate tourism."
