A section of railway line has been blocked by a fallen tree.

It has happened on the route between Broadstairs and Dumpton Park and as a result rush hour services between Margate and Ramsgate are being cancelled or delayed.

Work to remove the obstruction is ongoing, but train operator Southeastern has warned passengers to expect disruption until 10am.

Passenger Mark Vaux said: "Travelling home this morning, my train struck a tree shortly after leaving Broadstairs station.

"After over an hour of waiting, the rear four coaches were separated and we headed back to Broadstairs, where buses were going to be laid on.

"Disruption is ongoing, both lines are blocked as at 9.20am."

Rail replacement buses are being organised to ferry passengers between the affected stations, but those hoping to travel are advised to leave extra time to complete their journey.

Those affected by the disruption may be entitled to compensation if they experience a delay in completing their journey.

Southeastern advises customers to keep their train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim for a refund.
