A family are hoping to raise £4,000 at a charity event to buy a custom wheelchair for five-year-old Archie who suffers from quadriplegic cerebral palsy and epilepsy.

Archie Page can’t walk, talk, sit or stand and requires 24 hour care after a bleed on the brain before birth.

He also cannot eat or drink and has to be fed via a tube to his stomach.

It is hoped that a charity night, put on by Killacam MMA and Golden Gloves Boxing Academy, will raise the £4,000 for the Broadstairs boy’s specialist wheelchair, which is not available on the NHS.

Archie’s parents Debbie Chapman and Dave Page want to ensure Archie is able to leave home with maximum support and comfort whilst also keeping him safe and secure.

Debbie said: “We are so grateful to Killacam and Golden Gloves Boxing Academy for wanting to help raise money for Archie. “It means so much to have local support and having a new wheelchair will really benefit Archie’s life.

“The fact that local people have agreed to be trained and fight in the ring for Archie is amazing.

“They are a great group of people and we can’t that them enough.”

Archie’s condition means it is very difficult for Debbie and David to find comfortable seating for him.

Debbie added: “His condition means his hips are highly prone to dislocation.

“So having a custom moulded wheelchair made to measure for Archie means that he can be seated correctly and kept safe.

“The wheelchair will be being supplied from specialised orthotics services who make custom moulded chairs for children and adults.”

Two years ago, fundraising efforts were made to create a sensory garden for Archie, as well as a new bedroom and wetroom.

The work was funded by a disabled facilities grant by Thanet District Council’s, the family’s personal savings and fundraising,

The fight night charity event will be held at Margate Winter Gardens on Saturday, October 21.
