A Broadstairs couple who have viewed more than 100 properties in their hunt for a house have been branded "too picky" after appearing on Location, Location, Location last night.

Accounts director Sophie and her husband Matt, who works in music events, got help from Kirstie Allsopp in the latest episode of the long-running Channel 4 show.

Meanwhile, Phil Spencer - who grew up in Littlebourne outside Canterbury - helped another house-hunter, Ellen Jones, 23, in the other half of the Thanet-based episode.

Kent's drastic house price increase was repeatedly referred to throughout the programme, with stats showing how the average property has rocketed in value by more than double since 2012.

With a budget of £600,000, Matt and Sophie toured three homes in the coastal district.

They were striving to find an open-plan four-bed house within walking distance to the beach and town.

Yet, they ended up rejecting all three of the properties they were shown on the programme.

The couple's ability to find flaws in each of the homes - and the fact they had already viewed more than 100 prior to the episode - drew in criticism from some viewers.

Taking to social media, one commenter wrote: "Not getting these two, seen 100 houses, they just want for nothing and are missing out, paying more."

Another said: "Sophie and Matt were too fussy and the longer they hang around the more the prices are going up. If you haven’t found anything after 100+ viewings, you never will."

"How picky can these selfish people be?!" added another.

At the start of the episode, the couple confessed they have spent a year struggling to find their perfect home.

Sophie said: "We moved out of our flat in London and put everything into storage. The house unfortunately fell through, and nine months later, we are still here at my mother's cottage."

With the first house, Matt said it was '"all they'd ever wanted", yet also admitted the property was "just really small based on the price".

Upon seeing the third house recommended by Kirstie - a detached priced at £450,000 in Ramsgate - the couple stated: "The main road, the area - it's not for us, it's not what we want."

Due to their preference for the first house they were shown, they returned for a repeat viewing. However, at the end of the show, it was revealed their search is still ongoing.

Ellen, on the other hand, had a more successful appearance on Location, Location, Location.

She was seeking a place in Thanet due to its vibrant LGBQT+ community, and viewed properties in Westgate-on-Sea, Ramsgate and Margate.

After putting down the asking price offer of £210,000, Ellen bought the Margate flat which proved to be the quirkiest of the three properties shown to her by Phil.
