Flytippers were caught red handed dumping rubbish in the street after being spotted on camera in the act.

Footage shows the moment police and council officers arrived to slap the perpetrators with a fine.

The group were seen ditching a sofa, cushions and planks of wood in Cliftonville in Thanet.

A man was fined £400 while the other flytippers - all from Cliftonville - were given a warning and told to remove the waste properly.

Video of the incident in Athelstan Road was released by Thanet District Council as part of a campaign to crackdown on illegal flytipping in the district.

The fine was issued during joint operation between the council and Kent Police on February 22.

A tweet put out by the Thanet council enforcement team said it was "one of a number of successes" on the day.

A spokesman said: "At this incident, one person received an fixed penalty notice for £400, the others received a warning and then removed the waste legally."

In another incident posted by the council, a woman is seen dropping a McDonald's cup to the floor while sitting on a bench just a few feet away from a bin.

A tweet by the council's enforcement team said: "It's not just about picking up litter but education to prevent littering in the first place.

"Just feet from a bin this cup is thrown nonchalantly to the floor on our high street. It is so unnecessary and has to stop."
