Forensic officers and 30 firefighters have been called to a blaze in a flat above a sweet shop.

Fire crews were joined by paramedics outside the building in Albion Hill, Ramsgate.

The blaze started in a flat above the Mr Simms sweet shop building at about 3am.

One person was passed into the care of paramedics.

Firefighters searched the premises before tackling the flames using breathing apparatus, high pressure hoses and a heighted vehicle.

Everything was under control by 9am and the number of fire engines was reduced to two.

But police and forensic officers remain at the scene alongside the fire service.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 3.38am on Sunday to assist Kent Fire and Rescue Service with a fire at a residential address in Albion Hill, Ramsgate.

"Officers enforced localised roads closures, which had been lifted by around 7.30am, while firefighters extinguished the fire.

"At present, the fire is not being treated as suspicious and one person sustained injuries as a result of the fire.

"Officers remain at the scene conducting enquiries."
