Teenager charged following reported assault on schoolgirl in Arlington Gardens in Margate

A teenage girl has been charged with wounding with intent after a 12-year-old schoolgirl was reportedly knocked unconscious in the street.

She was walking home from school on Thursday, November 29 at about 3.30pm when she was attacked in Arlington Gardens.

The assault was videoed on a mobile phone and circulated widely on social media.

A 13-year-old girl, and two 15-year-old girls, were arrested on suspicion of assault.

The 13-year-old, from Margate, will appear at Canterbury Youth Court on Monday, February 4 charged with wounding with intent.

One 15-year-old girl has been released without charge, and the second girl remains under investigation.

The Charles Dickens School pupil was taken to hospital for treatment for head injuries.

She was recovering at home the morning after the attack, with her family heartened by the deluge of support from the local community and across the country.
