The Ramsgate Society is appealing for help to clean up the town and prevent vandalism.

The group is looking for donations to repair the seafront shelters and raise money for CCTV cameras to monitor the seafront.

The society, founded in 1964, focuses on caring for Ramsgate’s architectural heritage.

Chairman Jocelyn McCarthy said: “Acts of vandalism are bringing the community down and we want to raise community support and prevent this from happening.”

The appeal follows the vandalism of the Ramsgate seafront shelters on New Year’s Eve, which caused hundreds of pounds of damage.

Mr McCarthy added: “I do not understand people who are bent on damaging the pride of the town.

“Each broken pane of glass costs £75 to restore and last time vandals smashed six of them.

“We need help to raise money to repair our seafront shelters and look into getting cameras to help the cause.”

The shelters will be fenced off from Thursday to avoid accidents while repairs are being made.
