Firefighters tackle the blaze at the Holly Tree pub in Northdown Road, Cliftonville

The Holly Tree pub in Margate reopens on Friday (July 18), a month after fire wrecked part of the building.

Staff, customers and tradesmen have been hard at work to remove and repair the damage caused and landlady Lisa Cooke said: “We really appreciate all the kind messages of support from the local community and hope you will join us in celebrating our return.”

The fire, caused by a washing machine plug which was not switched off at the wall when not in use, has caused extensive damage to the commercial kitchen and upper floors of the pub which will be repaired over the coming months.

The ground floor and gardens of the pub will be open to customers with full bar and limited food menu. DJs and local bands will be playing over the weekend with a special offer on Carlsberg and Fosters at £3 a pint from Friday at 5pm.

The music line up includes music with Lofty Harris on Friday from 9pm; and soul funk stars EK1 live on Saturday from 9pm.
