Arrest after people sprayed with ‘strong alkali’ in Mansion Street, Margate

An arrest has been made by detectives investigating reports four people were assaulted by a man with an unknown substance.

A group was allegedly involved in a disturbance in Mansion Street, which runs between Fort Road and The Parade, in Margate just before 1.15am on Saturday (November 9).

During the incident, police say a man allegedly sprayed others with a liquid, believed to have been a strong alkali.

It caused four people to suffer reddening and irritation to their faces or chest.

Officers attended and seized a bottle believed to have contained the substance used.

In a further update issued today (November 11) police say they have arrested a 19-year-old man from Ramsgate on suspicion of assault.

He currently remains in custody while enquiries continue.
