People have been protesting in support of the NHS and junior doctors.

Members from Thanet Momentum political group staged the protest in Ramsgate town centre.

Christine Tongue helped to create awareness about the event.

She said: “It was really well supported and we decided to do it in the town centre because people had already protested outside of the hospital but you actually had to drive past the QEQM to see us there.

“The idea for this was to bring the picket to the people and do it on a busy market day in the town,

“We hope it gives the junior doctors heart that so many people are behind them and supporting their cause.

“Huge numbers of people also signed our petition to support them and stop the privatisation of the NHS.

“We are all very worried about our hospitals and you could see that from the amazing support. People care deeply about the health service.”

The group’s petition called on hospital bosses to refuse to impose contracts on the doctors and to resist any privatisation or cuts to services.

Mrs Tongue said: “We had hardly set up our table when people were almost pulling petitions out of our hands to sign them.”

Momentum Thanet say they are planning more events in support of the NHS and the QEQM hospital in the future.
