South Thanet MP Craig Mackinlay and two former aides will go on trial in October to face charges related to election expenses claims.

Mr Mackinlay, 51, election agent Nathan Gray, 29, and party activist Marion Little, 63, have each been charged with offences concerning expenses incurred during the 2015 election.

Mr Mackinlay won the seat in a fiercely contested election in which the then UKIP leader Nigel Farage stood.

The charges were brought under the Representation of the People Act 1983.

The trial had been due to begin at Southwark Crown Court in May.

It had been delayed after the Supreme Court was asked to rule on a procedural issue concerning the legislation under which the charges were brought.

The trial will start on October 15 and is expected to last several weeks.
