King Ethelbert School in Birchington's huge GCSE improvements put students top of the latest Kent figures

Students at King Ethelbert School in Birchington are top in Kent for the greatest improvement in their school’s GCSE results.
In 2013, the number achieving five or more A*-C GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and maths, soared from 30 to 54%.
A total of 51 schools saw their headline figure of improvement rise, with King Ethelbert top of the chart.
The Canterbury Road school has made a huge leap, closing on the national average of 59.9%. Kent schools overall are scoring above the national result, achieving 63.1%.
Year 11 students at King Ethelbert’s are celebrating a record number of GCSE passes already this year, six months before the final examinations in June.
The numbers achieving five or more A*-C GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and maths at other Thanet schools in 2013 are as follows (2012 figure in brackets for comparison):
Charles Dickens School 53% (43%), Chatham and Clarendon Grammar School 94% (86%), Clarendon House Grammar School 93% (94%), Dane Court Grammar School 94% (92%), Ellington and Hereson School 43% (41%), Hartsdown Technology College 51% (46%), Marlowe Academy 28% (20%), St George’s Church of England Foundation School 53% (46%), Ursuline College 42% (50%).
